About The Talent Quest:

Collies Idol Talent Quest commenced on Friday 16th March 2007, at JC's Basement Tavern, Collegians Leagues Club, Located on the Corner of Flinders and Charlotte Streets, Wollongong. The quest is in search for the Illawarra's best talent, with a chance to win in over $5000 worth of prizes.

About The Venue:

Collies Idol Talent Quest is hosted in the newly renovated JC's Basement Tavern, Collegians Leagues Club Wollongong. Collegians has been the Wollongong's centrepiece venue for entertainment for over the past 30 years, hosting every Major Australian Band, Including INXS, Midnight Oil, Little River Band, The Angels, Cold Chisel and numerous overseas acts including Bo Diddley, Del Shannon and thousands of Sydney and Illawarra bands.

JC's is a purpose built entertainment area, away from the Poker Machines, Keno and Football, It boasts a intimate room with capacity of over 400 patrons, State Of The Art lighting and sound, excellent bar facilities with a brilliant cocktail menu, good security and a friendly inviting atmosphere.

About The Compere:

Collies Idol Talent Quest is hosted by one of Wollongong's best entertainers, Dragan. Formally the Lead Singer of many Top Bands, Dragan has come to prominence over the last 10 years after winning the Industry award for Top Male Vocalist in the Contemporary Music Category. Dragan has successfully hosted the last 3 'Idol' Talent Quests, Including the inaugural Collies Idol Talent Quest back in 2004, where 1st Prize was a trip to Los Angeles, and entry into Hollywood Talent Showcase. Dragan makes any song look easy, Effortlessly covering songs from Robbie Williams & INXS to Elvis, leaving the crowd cheering for more. Dragan's dedication to making this Collies Idol Talent Quest a success for both Collegians Leagues Club and Butterfly Promotions is greatly appreciated.

With OVER $5000 worth of prizes to be won, it is a great incentive to get up and show us your talent!

Each week $200 CASH is given away, $100 to the heat winner as decided by the Judges and $100 to the heat winner as decided by YOU, the audience!

How It Works:

Heats are conducted on Friday Nights form 8pm at JC's Basement Tavern Collegians Wollongong. 2 Heat Winners are chosen. One By the Judges and One by the Audience. These Heat winners go straight through the GRAND FINAL! To be held on 8th June, 2007 The grand final is a 50/50 Audience / Judges Vote.

Judging:

Contestants are judged by our panel of 3 independent judges, Comprising of our Killer Judge Matt - If you thought Dicko was bad, you haven't met Matt!, The ever so talented Shazza Hines and Mick Holden. Judging is done in 4 categories, each comprising of 25 points each. These are, Song One, Song Two, Stage Appearance and Crowd Appeal. The Judges are also looking for the whole package, not just looking good, or singing great. The entertainment factor has to be there to please the Judging panel.

Heat ONE! - 16th March Heat One commenced to a good crowd, with 16 contestants entered into the competition. Only 2 were allowed through, and our Killer Judge, Matt was rather critical about points of the singers performances.

Heat TWO! - 23rd March Heat 2 saw the competition start to heat up! 18 contestants were in the quest this week, singing to a crowd of over 100 eager audience voters. Karaoke King Elvis turned up to sing his way to stardom, but unfortunately left the building before the audience had a chance to vote! Judge Matt was impressed by the contestants this week, but kept the standards high.

Heat THREE! - 30th March Heat 3 was a fun filled evening with a great deal of controversy towards the end. 15 contestants were entered into the competition, performing in front of a good crowd of over 110 eager voters. The Judges had a interesting night, and due to this, we have decided to add a female judge, making it 3, to give a totally unbiased decision. Our main Judge, Matt aka Dicko, has asked that we inform all contestants of what he is looking for, and this is, Performance Value, Stage Presence, Entertainment Value & Appearance. The whole package NOT just the ability to sing The Suggestion of bringing in a 'Red Faces' style gong was also floated this week. Next week should be an interesting week... Heat FOUR! - 6th April Heat 4 was the smallest heat this far, with only 11 contestants, however the talent quality level was still high. The judges had a unanimous vote, with no controversy, but the Audience Vote this week proved that bringing a whole group of friends can get you a place in the Grand Final. The competition is starting to heat up, with the Judges looking for better performances each week. As it was a smaller night, the Judges' were kept busy answering questions for the Judges profile appearing here, on the Official Collies Idol Page, next week.

Heat FIVE! - 13th April Collies Idol Exclusive! The Photo they didn't want you to see. Heat 5 saw some amazing talent a large crowd and 10 contestants, with the audience being blown away by the winners performances. The Judges were disagreeing as to who would be winner. Shaz and Matt shared this moment, as seen above, and after some persuasion the judges came to a unanimous decision. The Audience winner, Jodie showed an extremely high level of talent, even going to the effort of changing clothes in between performances. The Judges commented on Jodie saying 'This is the sort of thing that we are looking for' The Competition has once again stepped up a notch, and the Judges will be becoming more critical, cutting the trash and making the stars. Heat SIX! - 20th April Watch The Knives FLY! Heat 6 was sensational heat, with 16 contestants, and a crowd over 200 Eager audience voters. It was also the heat with the most controversy seen in all of the series. The Judges had some rather steamy and loud conversations but THE BIG KILLER JUDGE, Matt, over ruled them all! He decided, that the dressing up of 'Elvis', who he had previously failed to win a heat, was more talented than some of the other acts. This caused some arguments both between the Judges and the Audience, but ended up in some very disgruntled contestants and other judges. Heat 6 saw an extraordinary level of talent, despite some of the contestants not getting through. Alan Jackson, a sensational performer, absolutely blitzed many of the contestants on the night, but once again, due to the somewhat controversial judging of Matt, he was not given a place. After a huge amount of pressure, Matt FINALLY gave in, and decided to spit the prize and vote and allow the very talented young singer, Rohan through as well as 'Elvis Phil'. In total 3 contestants get the chance to go straight through to the Grand Final! Due to the difficulty with the judging, the producers have decided to Tighten The Killer Judge Matt's leash, and give more power to the audience with the possibility of randomly selected audience judges. Heat 7 Proves to be a very interesting heat. Heat Seven! - 27th April This week, Collies Idol saw 13 Contestants, some of which were rather talented. There was issues with late entry of contestants, and therefore all contestants must be REGISTERED NO LATER THAN 9.30pm. Once again, controversy over the Judging occurred, with a decision being made to alter the rules to the competition. The 'Gorgeous' Shaz Hines Our moderate judge, Ms Shaz Hines, Is so wishy washy and can't make up her mind, and doesn't have the strength to stand up to 'The Killer'. When the going gets tough, Shaz simply replied 'Oh I never wanted to be a Judge' The Judging will be under close supervision next week. Our Nightly Reporter Told 'Collies Idol' That Leanne and Elicia were truly outstanding contestants, and they were surprised that neither of them got through, so we are hoping they will return to once again try out. We also hope Alan Jackson returns, as he is a very talented performer, but his song choice this week was rather dull. Please note, ALL ENTRY FORMS MUST LIST A VALID PHONE NUMBER AND BE SIGNED AGREEING TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OR ENTRY INTO THE COMPETITION WILL BE DENIED.

Heat EIGHT! - 4th May Heat 8 saw only 7 contestants, we have heard a rumour that about 30 good singers are just thinking of entering the last heat, but this limits their chances severely of getting through, as 2 contestants will only be going through and there will be no further heats, Our advice is, turn up every week if you think you would like to get through. This week we saw some talented performers, Alan Jackson was back again and this time blitzed his performance and wont the audience vote by a landslide. Unfortunately we saw a few errors by the our friendly roadie, who cant be left alone for 10 minutes, as Tony managed to create some issues in the short time he was left alone. We need to stress that there is over $5000 worth of cash prizes to be won, they can return week to week, they need to have their cards in by 9.30, and the competition starts right on 10pm, ready or not. Contestants MUST PROVIDE CONTACT NUMBERS AND SIGN THE CONDITIONS OF ENTRY! The competition is getting towards the end! Only 4 Heats to go!

Heat Nine! - 11th May Heat 9 saw a small but enthusiastic number of contestants, and an intimate audience. The level of talent was high, the night was full of laughter and for once, the judges agreed! The Judges winner, Jeff St. John was commented on by the killer judge, Matt. Matt was caught saying 'Normally, every time this guy opens his mouth, he is an idiot but tonight, he has shocked me that he is infact a good performer and not just an idiot.' A reminder for contestants: It is advised that contestants start arriving at about 8 - 9pm as the talent quest starts at 10pm Promptly. All song requests must be in by 9.30pm. If for some reason the main entrance is blocked due to Ken and his fabulous promotions, Please use the elevator located near the back of the bistro area for access to the Basement Nightclub, home of Collies Idol. The Grand Final is getting closer! Only 3 Heats to go!

Heat TEN! - 18th May Heat Ten showed 7 talented contestants, with a few travelling down from Sydney, who accessed our quest via the Official Collies Idol Website! Each contestant pleased the intimate audience, and some of the return contestants have been improving every week. Jimbo, one of our repeat contestants has shown substantial improvement each week, and appears to have overcome his nerves. With the Grand Final quickly approaching, the Judges are getting harder in search for the X factor that will be crucial in the final weeks. Please be aware, that the audience vote on the Grand Final will be judged by filling out voting cards, not as the current way. We wish all contestants in success, and to start practicing for the Grand Final! The Grand Final is getting closer! Only 2 Heats to go!

The Grand Final!
Friday, 8th June 2007. What a night! The Colies Idol Grand Final was truly a sensational night for everyone involved. As the doors opened at 8, Over 350 eager audience votes streamed in to support their friends who were in the final, the room was so packed it was standing room only. We had 21 Sensational Finalists, amazing the crowd song after song. For the Grand Final to have even and unbiased judging, we had our 3 regular judges, Matt, Shaz and Mick, and 2 celebrity judges, Anita Brown - A very talented music teacher who has a perfect ear for pitch, and John Smith, a guitar player from some of the regions hottest acts over the last 30 years.

The finalists all went to a tremendous amount of effort to please the judges, in the way of appearance, costume changes and getting the crowd involved.

Each Finalist performed 2 songs, with a range of Cabaret songs to Heavy Rock Songs. On many occasions the Finalists has the crowd up dancing and singing along, and the crowd reaction to the performances was overwhelming. The Crowd Up Dancing.
The Verdict!
At about 1am, the Judges came to the Final Verdict. As much as every Finalist deserved a prize for their outstanding performances, unfortunately we only had 4 Major Cash Prizes. The very nervous yet excited contestants were all called to the stage for the verdict, The Finalists

Conclusion:
After winning both the Judges and Audience vote, Amy walked away Crowned 2007 Collies Idol and was $1500 dollars richer! Jodie pleased the Audience so much that she received an outstanding number of votes! After 12 weeks of long heats in search for The Collies Idol, we have come across some of the regions best talent, that we would like to thank greatly for being a part of this talent quest and entertaining a great number of people. We wish all our finalists the best success in the future, and Congratulations to our winners.

We thought Newcastle had bad weather, but it decided to come bother us in Wollongong on this night! Due to the bad weather, the number of contestants was rather low, but the 5 that did compete did so very well, and the votes were extremely close!
